We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work and live and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We also pay our respects to Elders’ past, present and emerging.

iSISTAQUIT provides vital training for ACCHO health professionals and encouragement to communities and pregnant women to quit smoking

Thank you Donella Mills NACCHO Chair for launching our iSISTAQUIT social media campaign earlier this year
After many years absence because of COVID-19 restrictions, NACCHO members from all around Australia will finally meet up in Canberra this month for a national members conference.

iSISTAQUIT besides being a major OCHRE sponsor will be exhibiting over the two days, so it will be an ideal opportunity to catch up with our team and learn more about our smoking cessation training. Change starts with a chat

With as many as 45% of pregnant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women smoking during pregnancy, compared to 13% of non-Indigenous women, it is vital that ACCHO healthcare professionals are equipped with the best available tools to aid in their smoking cessation.

Evidence based training

We have found there is considerable evidence that smoking cessation counselling from ACCHO health providers help smokers quit smoking.

However, lack of training in culturally sensitive smoking cessation methods may prevent you from delivering effective smoking cessation intervention.

In an Australia-wide survey of 378 GPs and obstetricians working in mainstream and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander settings, we found clinicians lacked confidence in providing treatment to women and 75% agreed that training would help improve their management of smoking in pregnancy.”
